Surprise Update and Big Wonders

Well I have a BIG secrete I want to share with everyone. I am pregnant!! Today I am 16 weeks and 5 days. This is a major thing for me. I have had 5 miscarriages in the last 5 years. Each one I have not gotten past 8 weeks and 3 days. On the 14th we are going to find out if the baby is a boy or a girl. We are super excited. I did not want to revile our big secrete until we were past the point of were we had gotten to in the past. In 2 weeks I have an appointment with the high risk doctors for more Sono scans.

I have a fetal doppler that I use at home between appointments and let me tell you it really helps to put the mind at ease. Any time I am feeling nurvious about the baby I check the heart beat. Being able to hear the little one is a wonderful thing. It really puts the mind at ease. Up until now I have had weekly appointments with my OB and now I am seeing the Doc every 3 weeks. So that is my big surprise and update.

Today I would like to introduce you to another wonderful member ofThe Polymer Clay Smoosher's Guild intothedawn. Dawn lives in Colorado and is a creative spirit and self-taught multi-media artist. Star aka ColtPixy is the guild master of the Polymer Clay Smooshers Guild.

Lets get to know Star:
She has studied art and crafts her entire life. She does not have a favorite medium to work with. She LOVES them all! For many years she did nothing but paint. Her husband introduced her to stained glass. She loves working with glass but there is a LOT of scrap. She hates wasting anything. This led to mosaics. For about 10 years she rarely made anything but mosaics. In the past few years she has discovered that she really is happier not limiting herself to just that.

With the freedom of using different mediums came the ability to explore, learn and express herself more freely.

She prefers things that are one of a kind. So most of her items are just that OOAK. When she does reproduce something she incorporates subtle differences so that they are not exactly alike. Two roses on a vine are both similar but there are subtle differences that make each unique.

Right now her focus is mainly on polymer clay. She is a fantastic artist with wonderful items. You can check out her shop HERE and her blog HERE.

A No Cost Option to Photo Editing

Every one knows money is tight right now. If you are getting into selling online or you just need a photo editing program that is no cost for personal use Picasa3 is an awesome program. It is easy to use and best of all it costs you nothing. Picasa is made by Google. If you want to download a copy of Picasa3 you can CLICK HERE to download it. Picasa will automatically find all the photos on your computer and it will organize them in a matter of seconds. Which is great for me. I hate hunting for all my pictures. lol You can improve almost any picture with Picasa's one-click fixes for common problems like red-eye, color, and lighting. You can also use tuning and effects to make your photos look even better. The best thing about Picasa is it is super easy to use and super easy to learn. You do not need to read a 500 page book to learn to use the program.

Polymer Clay Smooshers Guild Bug Challenge

I am a member of a fantastic guild: Polymer Clay Smooshers and this month our challenge was to create things with a bug theme. I really enjoyed this challenge and today I want to share my entries with you. The items are available in my ArtFire Studio. We can create 2 items for the challenge.

For my first piece I made a ladybug brooch.

What I love about my ArtFire Pro account!

There is a bunch to love about ArtFire Pro selling account. But today I want to list a few and then tell you about my favorite.
1. I can have links on my Studio to my blog, website, facebook, youtube and more.
2. I can list as much as I want and never have to pay a listing fee and I can sell all I want without paying a fee.
3. I can have categories in my Studio.
4. I can send tweets from my product pages.
5. I can arrange my products in my Studio the way I want them to appear. I can even arrange the individual categories.

Here is my favorite of all!
The FaceBook Kiosk. I can have a kiosk on my personal facebook page as well as my FanPage. People do not have to sign up for an account with ArtFire to purchase my handmade items. It is easy for buyers and it is easy for me. :)

So if you make handmade goods or have vintage items you can sell on ArtFire for little or no fees. The Pro accounts are only $15.95 per month with no contract. 1. What is your name?

2. How did you come into your craft?

Several years ago I "discovered" photo jewelry... I had a necklace made with a photo of my twins which were 3 at the time. When I was pregnant with my baby, I contacted the woman that made it to order a new one when the baby was born. She was no longer making them, which of course turned into a great thing for me! I was really sad at the time because I loved my photo pendant of the boys and really wanted a new one of all three when the baby arrived. So I decided to make one myself! It didn't take long to realize I could not only make myself one, but I could sell them too. And that was the beginning of my new business endeavor...

3. Tell us a little about the artist behind the art?

Well most importantly I am a mother of 3 beautiful boys! My twins are almost 7 and my baby just turned 1. Of course I love to show them off, hence the photo jewelry, LOL. I am also an interior designer. Before relocating to Panama, yes the country, I lived in sunny SW Florida and had a very successful design firm. Unfortunately with the economy the way that it is... we decided to close the firm and move to Panama, where my husband is originally from. Because of the language barrier, my Spanish is not that great, I decided not to continue to design here. Although 3 boys keep my life spinning in circles, I needed something creative to do, so when the opportunity to make and sell the photo jewelry presented itself... I took it. Now of course the designer in me just had to come out sometime and that's when I created the "jYOUlry Signature Collection" a line of sterling silver photo jewelry designed by me (more to come).

4. How did you come up with the name for your Studio?

I sat with my laptop and just wrote down words, like picture, photo, design, etc... and played around with them trying to come up with something creative, something that wasn't already used. I was also playing with combining words and had inadvertently come up with more of a tag line, like "photo jewelry, where the jewel is you" and suddenly it hit me, the jewel is you... jYOUlry! I loved it instantly. I googled it and checked it out on etsy and no one was using it!!! So yeah, I found something unique, creative and describes what it is I do, at least I think it does, LOL.

5. What is your all time passion?

Hmmm, good question!

I asked my husband and he says my passion is pizza. Although I have to admit I really do LOVE pizza, I am not sure I would call it my passion. I guess I really don't have one. Designing was my passion but since I haven't practiced in over 2 years and don't even miss it that much, ok a little, ok maybe a lot, but now I am not so sure its actually my passion... I think right now my passion is to discover what my true passion is, if that makes any sense. For now I am enjoying being able to be a stay home mom and watch my little guys grow, while still being able to create beautiful things for others... hey, maybe that's my passion... creating beautiful things for others. That's what i essentially did as an interior designer and its what I love about designing jewelry too.

Today's Featured Artisan is KaoticKrafter. Lets get to know the artist.

What is your name?
My name is Kristina and I am a craft addict.
How did you become a craft addict?
It all started back in October of 2009. I was stressed out and life seemed to be crazy. Some would turn to drink, some to drugs. Me, I chose to crochet. It didn't take long for it to take over my life. I couldn't get enough. I would crochet in the car, in front of the t.v., at the doctors office. You name it, I would try to crochet there. Addicted yes, still stressed out and running a crazy life? No way.
What does your craft mean to you?
Crochet seemed to be my gateway craft. Since then I have dabbled/ become addicted to many different forms of crafting and creating. I will spare you from the boring details of ALL the crafts I have tried out, but I will tell you this. I LOVE to recycle and craft at the same time.
What is your favorite materials to work with?
My favorite materials to work with right now are recycled wool sweaters and paper. I really enjoy taking all the junk mail, bills, fliers, newspapers, and other unwanted papers that come into my house and turn them into new, useful, and fun things.

I also really enjoy working with recycled sweaters. I find it fascinating that I can throw 5 100% wool sweaters into my washer machine, wash them in hot water, and they will all come out a different texture of felt. Amazing. And I can turn that felt into some pretty fun and amazing things.

There are lots of other crafts I really enjoying doing. That is why I run a shop called KaoticKrafter :)

I will say this out of all the guilds I am a member of I love my smooshers guild the best. There is some very AWESOME talent in this guild. So today I want to feature the wonderful people in the Polymer Clay Smooshers.

First we have ColtPixy. Lets get to know her :)
She has studied art and crafts her entire life. With the freedom of using different mediums came the ability to explore, learn and express herself more freely. Preferring things that are one of a kind. Right now her focus is mainly on polymer clay. She is currently the guild master for the Polymer Clay Smooshers Guild.
Her most favorite item in her studio is:

Lets learn a bit more about this artist. Her name is Carolyn and she's always been interested in creating her own designs which started early with sewing her own clothes and accessories. From there she discovered fine arts in high school where she enjoyed silk screening, batiking and painting. In college Carolyn continued her studies in painting, sewing and design. Her work has varied from floral designing (and owning her own flower shop) to creating one of a kind purses and eyeglass pouches. Color has always played an important role in her art so it was only natural to branch out into bead work and since discovering polymer clay, she has been able to apply all of these techniques to this new art form.

She is a super busy Mom of 5 with a love of jewellery and creating... and now she is offering it for others to enjoy. She lives in Australia. She gains inspiration from everything at different times. She has a very eclectic tastes and this will be apparent in the variation of items available in her studio.

Her name is Niki. She lives in Phoenix Arizona, with her young daughter, her husband, and two cats. She is currently working full time out of the home in a non-artsy related job, but hoping that some day she will be able to work full time at home. She has this need to work with her hands, creating. It doesn't matter if it's a hand made card, a hair bow for her daughter, a knitted blanket, or a nice bracelet or something sculpted out of polymer clay - She is simply not happy unless she is creating something.

Her name is Valerie and she is a stay at home mom, with two beautiful daughters. She was born and raised in the rust belt of Ohio. She came from a declining industrial area, which she believes has colored her influences and attitude. She finds beauty in nature and industrial decay. Northeast Ohio boasts of both and it makes for an eclectic and inspirational pallet.

Calling Etsy out for account snooping

I was appalled when I read a report stating Etsy Admin's are logging into seller accounts and reading the conversations in their accounts. If that is not bad enough they are responding to conversations. Can you believe this crap. I for one do not pay them to have an account there for them to police my conversations. I can understand if someone reports cursing or bashing. But that is not what is going on. They are going into account just to see what you are talking about. That is just WRONG! I am pissed off about this. Here is the link to one of the reports on this:

I for one will not be relisting my items at Etsy for this reason. I will be listing all my items on ArtFire. Please everyone if there is any item you want to get from me please go through ArtFire. I for one love creating new things with my hands. Think about it you take a wire and make a work of art from it. Completely changing the look and feel of the piece. Making it your own. Every piece is different and unique. I think it is awesome to own something that no one else has and no one will ever have the same one.

I am making a new necklace for my Mom. This is a special order from my niece for my Mom's B-Day. I will post pictures of the custom order after C (my niece) gives it to Mom for her birthday. :)

This is a wire wrapped pendant of a birds nest. It is wrapped in copper wire with blue glass seed beads for birds eggs. Super Cute and supper fun to make.
